Battle Emblem Seeking 2012 CB Cox Stakes Jockey After McGruddy Race Fall

December 19th, 2012

Battle Emblem has been left without a jockey for the 2012 CB Cox Stakes after Shaun McGruddy was injured in a race fall at Lark Hill on Wednesday.

McGruddy fell from Royal Conquest as she passed the post after winning the 14th barrier trail.

The talented jockey suffered a fractured left knee in the fall and could face up to 12 weeks on the sidelines.

McGruddy’s manager, Tom Atkinson, confirmed the jockey’s current condition.

“He is in quite a bit of pain at the moment,” Atkinson said.

“He will go to see the orthopaedic surgeon… to determine how long he will be out.

“Shaun is hoping it will be six to eight weeks but it could be up to 12 weeks depending on how bad the break is.

“He is in good spirits and is remaining positive, saying it is the first time he can spend time with his family without riding in 15 years.”

Battle Emblem finished fourth in the Listed GA Towton Cup at Ascot last start and will be out to win his first start this preparation in the 2012 CB Cox Stakes this weekend.

Meanwhile, trainer Adam Durrant is confident Mr Moet will continue his summer success with a win in the $225,000 race.

Mr Moet will have to contend with barrier 14 in the race, however, Durrant is unfazed by the draw.

“I don’t think the barrier is an issue,” Durrant said.

“He always gets back to find his feet.

“I think he is the best stayer in the race. It is a matter of him getting a clear run and not getting caught up behind slow horses.”
