Perfect Reflection Will Get the Distance in 2016 CB Cox Stakes

December 13th, 2016

Leading West Australian hoop William Pike is confident that Perfect Reflection will prove tough to beat when she lines up for the Group 2 CB Cox Stakes at Ascot on Saturday, which will figure as her first attempt at 2100m.

Perfect Reflection has been one of Perth’s best racehorses since she made her competitive debut in September of 2015; posting six wins and a further four minors through eleven starts, highlighted by a classy win in last year’s edition of the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m).

Having finished third in each of the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) and the Kingston Town Classic at her two most recent starts, Pike told The West Australian that the mare has only taken benefit from her runs to far and believes she will relish a step up in distance for the 2016 CB Cox Stakes.

“I’m very keen to get her over the ground,” Pike said.

“It’s a little bit of an unknown, but the key for me is to get her to relax and conserve some energy early. If I can get her to settle she will run it out.

“A bit further might just be what she’s looking for.

“She’s still going well.

“I think we bumped into a couple of exceptional ones (Stratum Star and Scales Of Justice) the other day.

“It’s hard to line up her three-year-old form to now really, because she was carrying lighter weights last year.

“She’s working well.”

Perfect Reflection was unbeaten through her first five career starts upon debuting last year, and suffered her first defeat when third behind Don’t Doubt Mamma and Egypt in the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m) in Melbourne on February 20th.

Unable to beat a runner home in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) in her second start for Darren Weir in autumn, the daughter of More Than Ready was returned to Perth and the paddock, with a view towards the Summer Carnival.

Resuming this time for third in the Group 3 Northerly Stakes (1400m), Perfect Reflection comfortably won the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) on November 5th, in what was her only other start prior to the Railway Stakes.
